  5. This uncrippled image handling program is free, no questions
  6. asked!
  7.  
  8. Why are we doing this? Because the need for fast and
  9. accurate communication becomes more critical every day. Now,
  10. more than ever, much of it is taking place over networks,
  11. BBSs and the Internet. And a lot consists of multimedia
  12. files. Ulead specializes in multimedia solutions. Consider
  13. them a gift to help all of us communicate better.
  14.  
  15. *************  What is Ulead Viewer?  ***************
  16.  
  17. Viewer is a powerful viewing utility that allows you to
  18. quickly open, view, save, and make minor modifications to
  19. image files. You can zoom in to 8x and out to 1/8x size
  20. according to your needs. As a stand-alone program, you can
  21. open practically any image in Viewer by dragging it from
  22. File-Manager or through its Open dialog box.  When used with
  23. File Manager, double-clicking on an image in File Manager
  24. automatically shows it in Ulead Viewer, (as long as the
  25. image type is associated with Ulead Viewer in your system).
  26. Viewer allows you crop unwanted portions of images and has a
  27. unique "global viewer" that helps you navigate about images
  28. that are larger than their windows.  By openiing a file in
  29. one format and then saving to another, Viewer allows you to
  30. do file conversion.  You can open multiple viewer instances
  31. and use 'Tile', 'Always On Top', and other commands to
  32. arrange and compare them on the desktop.

  34. *****************  File Formats Supported  *****************
  35.  
  36. This version of Ulead Viewer supports the following file
  37. formats:
  38.  
  39. BMP   A popular device-independent Windows file format. This
  40.       format can be understood by practically any Windows
  41.       program that supports graphics. One popular use for
  42.       this format is to create wallpaper and patterns for
  43.       the Windows desktop. Viewer fully supports this
  44.       format.
  45.  
  46. CGM   A device independent graphics file format well suited
  47.       for two-dimensional CAD drawings. This format is
  48.       widely accepted by many programs. Viewer can only read
  49.       these files and save them to other formats.

  51. EPS   A device independent file format for PostScript
  52.       printing and file exchange. Viewer can only read and
  53.       write to the raster component of this format.
  54.  
  55. GIF   A popular file format developed by Compuserve for
  56.       exchanging Image data via modem. The GIF format
  57.       supports indexed 16- and 256- Color formats as well as
  58.       Grayscale and Black and White. Viewer fully supports
  59.       this format.
  60.  
  61. JPEG  An industry standard file format developed by the
  62.       Joint Photographers Experts Group for file exchange.
  63.       This True Color or Grayscale format offers superior
  64.       compression of large images, sometimes achieving
  65.       ratios up to 100 to 1. However, it uses a lossy
  66.       compression method which means that some data is
  67.       irreversibly altered during compression. For on-line
  68.       use, the losses are rarely noticeable. Viewer fully
  69.       supports this format.

  71. PCD   This proprietary format was created by Eastman Kodak
  72.       for putting photographs on CDs. PCD files
  73.       simultaneously support Grayscale, Indexed 256-Color,
  74.       and RGB True Color data types. Viewer can only read
  75.       PCD files and save them to other formats.
  76.  
  77. PCX   A popular format for some scanning packages and
  78.       painting programs, this format supports Black and
  79.       White, 256-color, Grayscale, Hi Color, RGB True Color,
  80.       and CMYK True Color. Viewer fully supports this
  81.       format.
  82.  
  83. TGA   Developed by TrueVision for its full color video
  84.       boards, this format has gained wide acceptance for
  85.       many video capture applications. It supports
  86.       Grayscale, Indexed 256-Color, Hi Color, and True Color
  87.       data types. Viewer fully supports this format.
  88.  
  89. TIFF  Developed to promote using desktop scanners and DTP
  90.       applications on a PC, this format has become very
  91.       popular and is supported by many programs across all
  92.       platforms. It supports Black and White, Grayscale,
  93.       Indexed 16- and 256-Color, and RGB and CMYK True Color
  94.       data types. To control file size, it uses PackBits,
  95.       CCITT G3 1-D, and other compression methods. Viewer
  96.       fully supports this format.

  98. WMF   A device independent file format that supports both
  99.       vector and raster components. This format supports
  100.       Black and White, Indexed 16- and 256-Color, and RGB
  101.       True Color data types. It is a widely accepted format
  102.       among modern Windows-based programs. Viewer can read
  103.       all WMF files and save raster-based ones.

  105. *******************  System Requirements  ******************
  106.  
  107. To run these programs on your system, you must have the
  108. following:
  109.  
  110. *  IBM PC (or compatible)
  111. *  MS-Windows v. 3.1 (or higher)
  112. *  Microsoft Mouse (or compatible)
  113. *  At least 2.2 MB disk space (for program files)
  114.  
  115. ***********************  Installation  *********************
  116.  
  117. After downloading ULVIEW10.EXE, follow these steps to
  118. install the programs on your system:
  119.  
  120. 1.  Create a temporary directory and place ULVIEW10.EXE in
  121.     it, (ex. C:\TEMP).  Run it by using the Run command,
  122.  
  123.                ULVIEW10
  124.  
  125.     The program will self extract.
  126.  
  127. 4.  Open File Manager.
  128.  
  129. 5.  Double-click on the INSTALL.EXE program.
  130.  
  131. 6.  Follow the instructions on screen and click OK.
